United Mileage Plus Visa Select Card Review

For the money, the United Mileage Plus Visa Select is one of the best air travel rewards cards.

It's easy to rack up the rewards on this card. If you fly frequently on United, you earn three miles per dollar when you charge your ticket to the card, in addition to the miles you earn in United's Mileage Plus frequent flyer club. You also earn double miles on gas, home improvement purchases, groceries and dining purchases, and one mile per dollar on everything else. Purchases made at superstores, warehouse clubs, and discount stores (think Walmart, Target, Costco, BJs, etc.) earn one mile per dollar.

If you don't fly frequently on United but want to earn a cheap flight very quickly, it still might be worth it to get this card. After paying the $95 annual fee, you get 30,000 bonus miles, plus a $50 discount travel certificate, after you spend or transfer a balance of just $250. That's enough for a free flight within the 48 contiguous United States and Canada.

You also get 5,000 bonus miles each year on your enrollment date anniversary. And there's no limit on how many miles you can earn.

Most people who use frequently flyer credit cards don't carry a balance, but if you do, there's a relatively low 13.24 APR. The balance transfer fee is also a low three percent of the balance.

If you travel frequently on United and want to earn miles, you'd be foolish not to have the United Mileage Plus Visa Select credit card and use it frequently. The $95 fee is well worth it. The free flight after paying the annual fee and spending just $250 might make it worthwhile even if you don't travel on United that often.
