When you order your credit score, all you have in front of you is a number. You need to know how to read your credit score to understand what you’re looking at. Many companies that sell your credit score will also include a gauge that helps you read your credit score. Most credit scores that range from 300 to 850 have the following scale:
- Above 750: excellent credit

- 650-700: good credit
- 600-650: bad
- Below 600: very bad
The VantageScore ranges from 501 to 990 and assigns a letter grade to credit scores.
- 901—990: A
- 801—900: B
- 701—800: C
- 601—700: D
