Why is the credit report balance wrong on my credit report?

Question: Why is the credit report balance wrong on my credit report?

It's important that your credit card balance be report accurately because it impacts your credit utilization, a ratio of your credit card balance to credit limit that influences 30% of your credit score.

Answer: Your credit card balances fluctuates throughout the month as you make credit card payments and charges. It’s possible that your credit card balance changed between the time your credit card company reported your credit card balance to the credit bureaus, the time you last check your credit card balance, and the time you checked your credit report. That would explain why your credit card balance on your credit report doesn't match the one you see on your billing statement.

Your credit card balance could be reported inaccurately if you've had a $0 credit card balance for a few months and a recent credit report shows otherwise. In that case, you can submit a credit report dispute to have the credit card company provide the most recent balance.
