Overview

By LaToya Irby, About.com

The Credit Repair Answer Book by Gudren Maria Nickel, Attorney at Law is intended to help readers establish and re-establish credit. Since Nickel is an attorney, it's no surprise that the book delves into the laws dictating the use of consumer credit. If you're looking for general education about credit, debt collection, real estate, taxes, and bankruptcy this is a good book to read.

Book Review

Credit repair can be a tricky process. The Credit Repair Answer Book seeks to do exactly what its title suggests - give you answers that will help you repair your credit.

The thing I liked most about The Credit Repair Answer Book was the references and explanation of specific credit-related laws, like The Fair Credit Billing Act. Nickel's law background proved to be beneficial here as she simplifies the complex laws into everyday language.

Nickel also includes sample letters you can send to credit bureaus, creditors, and debt collectors along with examples of loan applications and foreclosure documents. The Appendix also includes valuable information - addresses and phone numbers of state resources, Federal Trade Commission offices, and statute of limitations.

If I were trying to repair my credit, Nickel's advice would point me in the right direction, but it wouldn't take me completely to the destination. She includes wealth of information about credit, but doesn't make it all actionable. It would be a great companion to an Everything or For Dummies book.
