As the recession and credit crunch continue, more consumers are turning to prepaid cards. Prepaid cards aren't really credit cards since they don't give you a credit limit. Instead, they're more like debit cards, except that you can't write checks from the balance and you don't have to pay checking account fees. Use a prepaid card in the same places you'd use a regular credit card.

The Green Dot Prepaid Visa doesn't require a credit check, and can be obtained from a local retailer like CVS, or online. You need to be at least 18 years old to get a Green Dot Prepaid Visa and you'll have to provide your social security number get a card with your name on it. You get free direct deposit and a $10 bonus if your first direct deposit is more than $50. Get more details on the Green Dot Prepaid Visa.

The Green Dot card has unusually high fees. $5.95/month, up to $4.95 to recharge it, $2.50 to use ATMs out of their network, and more.
