Is my credit score hurt when I check my credit report?

By , About.com Guide

Question: Is my credit score hurt when I check my credit report?
Answer: Fortunately, checking your own credit won't hurt your credit score. That type of credit check is known as a soft inquiry and you're the only one who sees those types of inquiries. You can check your credit score as often as you'd like and your credit score won't drop.

But, inquiries made when you put in credit applications count toward your credit score. So, if you're checking your credit through a mortgage or auto lender, your credit score could be affected by that inquiry.
