Consumers now have a single Federal agency they can complain about credit card problems. The new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is in charge of regulating banks and other companies offering financial products. Right now, the bureau's ability to make new laws is limited because it doesn't have a director, but hopefully that will change soon. (According to AP, Republican leaders want the bureaus' powers to be limited before they'll back any nomination for director.)
For now, the CFPB website, ConsumerFinance.gov, only lets you submit credit card complaints. In the future, you'll have the ability to submit complaints about other businesses. If you have an issue with a credit bureau or debt collector, contact the FTC. Here's a list of other agencies you can contact about issues with checking accounts and other financial products.
