They may not act like it when they call you, but debt collectors have rules that must be followed when they contact you about a debt. For example, the collector can't call you before 8:00 am.
Debt collectors' guidelines are outlined in the federal law known as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, aka the FDCPA. When your rights under the FDCPA have been violated, you can file a lawsuit against the collector in state or federal court. Before you file suit, make sure you have solid proof of the violation.

I need some help, it’s a long story but my x husband has a line of credit and put it threw my account yrs ago threw a friend at the bank telling me it will be better to have this line of credit together in one account so I got suckered I guess in thinking I was doing a good thing. Now I have proof of checks for the credit line going to garage dept and not me personally or him and when this went through the bank she never told me I co-signed for this and never checked my credit because I was just getting off of assistance and working for my x husband, so there is no way I could have co-sighed for this but he pulled strings somehow and now i’m sucked in . They are going after me and I am a single mom and don’t have a good income to even fight with and settle this and it’s not even my dept. I would like someone to call me or get back to me to see if I can get help in letting me know what I can do about this.

There are rules for debt collectors when pursuing consumer debt. These rules only apply to 3rd party debt collectors, and are not the same if the original creditor (business) is trying to collect their debt.
you were of age, you signed, you’re responsible. PAY IT!
