Credit Card Offers Are Worded to Deceive You

By , About.com Guide   September 3, 2010

Follow me on:

Credit card offers are written to entice you to apply and some of the wording is a bit exaggerated. CardRatings.com has a list of the 8 Most Deceptive Terms Used in Credit Card Offers and I definitely agree with the list. I've seen quite a few of them on credit card offers, especially "0% Fraud Liability" and "Helps Build Credit."

You can't believe everything you see in a credit card offer. The truth is buried in the credit card disclosure. That's where you'll find the truth about the APR and credit card fees.

Your link to the “8 Most Deceptive Terms…” is an excellent reference. As someone recovering from a bankruptcy several years ago it’s been quite a challenge to get a credit card.

Good credit card offers are hard to get for most people today. After bankruptcy your best bet is to get a secured card until you build back your credit. And that believe me will take years. You could use credit repair agencies for other bad things on your report but bankruptcy is not something you can remove I think. So sit back and be patient.
