Credit Card Processing via Mobile Phone

By , About.com GuideJanuary 22, 2009

Follow me on:

I thought it was pretty cool when the attendent at Mike's Express Car Wash swiped my credit card into a handheld device then printed a receipt in less than 60 seconds. However, I'm a little leary of a merchant using their iPhone to process credit card payments.

With a third-party software, like Credit Card Terminal by Innerfence, the merchant enters your credit card information and the software processes the transaction using Authorize.net, a payment gateway service.

To me, it seems too easy to have your credit card information stolen. Even if the software is as safe as it claims, who's to say the merchant hasn't rigged his (or her) phone to trap your credit card number. Maybe I'm being skeptical. What do you think? Would you let a merchant process your credit card through their iPhone or even a Blackberry?

one great way to raise your credit score is to use nca which stands for national credit associates. we are the only company that can legally raise your credit score unlike other company’s that temporarly raise your credit score for 30 to 90 days at best. we raise your credit score and it stays up as long as you keep making smart choses with your credit. raising your credit score can get you that car you’ve been wanting and coulden’t buy it due to credit. it also helps with home loans and so much more. it also lower’s your interests rates. so if you are interested please call me at 1-866-800-2408 i’m at extension 759 my name is anthony

I don’t know about that app, but iTouch2Pay does not store credit cards on my iPhone for sure. It just processes it but it does not store it.

We did a Free Mobile Phone Credit Card Processing solution and security really is a non-issue. It connects with Authorize.Net or PayPal Web Payments Pro via SSL, so it’s secure.

As for credit card numbers, just as with any Mobile Phone processing solution, the card numbers aren’t stored. It’s just a transaction ID that is used in case you need to refund, void, or credit a transaction. All the real magic is done by the payment gateway, which requires a secure connection.

If the party you are dealing with is crooked, you are getting burned anyway.

My company also offers a free download to process credit cards on your Iphone, blackberry or other smart phone device via authorize.net. What you really need to worry about is getting hit with hidden fees and contracts.
