Why Haven't You Checked Your Credit Report and Score?
Wednesday June 27, 2007
A recent Bankrate poll revealed that 32% of consumers have never checked their credit report, an alarming statistic considering consumers have access to free credit reports.
Another surprising statistic: 45% of consumers don't know their credit score - the number most creditors and lenders use to make a credit decision.
Turning your head the other way about your credit history won't make it go away. It won't stop lenders from using it to qualify you for a mortgage. It won't stop the power company from using it to decide if you should pay a security deposit.
Every consumer should know where they stand in terms of credit - what creditors are saying about the way they pay their bills. You put yourself at an unfair disadvantage when you allow your creditors and lenders know more about your credit history than you do.
